The Kannapolis Police Department announces the following promotions of personnel. James Livengood, II has been promoted to the position of Lieutenant. Jamie Beach and Travis Smith have been promoted to the position of Sergeant.

Lieutenant Livengood began his career with the Kannapolis Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 1999. In 2001 he was designated as a K-9 handler and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2009. He has served as Team Leader for the SRT (Special Response Team) and is a Field Training Officer.

Livengood is a graduate of North Rowan High School and holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. He has completed 5,267 hours of professional training.

The son of Carolyn Coley and James Livengood of Hope Mills, NC, Livengood is married to Crystal. They have a son, Tyler, and a daughter, Cydney.

Sergeant Beach joined the Kannapolis Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2004. In 2005 he transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division as a Felony Investigator and was later reassigned to the Vice Narcotics Unit. He is a member of the Honor Guard Team and a Negotiator for the Special Response Team. Beach was designated as Master Police Officer in January 2016.

He received a Unit Commendation with the Vice Narcotics Unit in 2014, a Unit Commendation with the Felony Investigations Unit in May 2016, a Class “A” Commendation in May 2016, and the Roger Dale Carter Memorial Service Award in May 2016.

Beach, a graduate of A.L. Brown High School, earned an Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology from Rowan Cabarrus Community College. He holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. He has completed 2,182 hours of professional training.

He is the son of Dyan Deangelis. He and his wife, Vickie, have two daughters, Jessica and Katlynn.

Sergeant Smith began his career with the Kannapolis Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2006. In 2010 he was assigned to the Honor Guard Team and designated as a Field Training Officer in 2014. He was designated as Master Police Officer in January 2016.

Smith was presented with a Life Saving Award in 2013 for actions performed in response to an emergency call in which the interior of a residence was fully engulfed in flames and smoke. The efforts of Officer Smith and others in extracting the victim from the burning residence saved a young man’s life.

Smith served in the United States Marine Corp from 1999 to 2005. During this time he was deployed to Iraq and he is currently in the Army Reserves.

Smith is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School and holds an Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. He has completed 1,797 hours of professional training.
