Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry has announced the promotion of Hunter Wood to the rank of Sergeant.
Hunter Wood began his career with the Kannapolis Police Department as a Police Officer in 2017. He served as a Patrol Officer until his assignment as a Felony Investigator in 2019, and then the Vice Narcotics team in 2020. He has earned the Master Police Officer designation and serves as a Field Training Officer.
He received a Unit Commendation for exemplary service in 2023 and has received several letters of commendation. In 2024 he was the recipient of the agency’s Roger Dale Carter Memorial Service Award. This award is given in memory of Kannapolis Police Officer Carter, who died in the line of duty. This award is presented annually to a sworn officer who has rendered exceptional service, and whose character and integrity exemplify the highest ideals of law enforcement.
He is a graduate of Estrella Foothills High School in Goodyear, Arizona. After graduating high school, he entered the United States Army as a Calvary Scout and completed the Airborne School, Sniper School, and Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course.
He holds an Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate from the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Hunter and his wife, Tayte, have two children, Hunnington and Huxton.
