We know everyone is excited about the possibility of snow, but it could cause hazardous road conditions for us Friday thru Saturday morning. We are currently under a Winter Storm Watch. A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. You should prepare accordingly and pay attention to weather forecasts.
The City and NCDOT began brining major thoroughfares, highways, and interstates yesterday and the work continues today. Brine is a solution of salt and water that is used as a pre-treatment barrier on streets to help keep ice and snow from freezing on streets.
We will continue to follow the weather forecast carefully and update you on street conditions when needed.
Remember these winter weather safety tips:
Slow down and maintain a safe following distance between you and other vehicles.
Approach bridges and overpasses with extreme caution since they accumulate ice first.
Come to a complete stop or yield the right of way when approaching an intersection where traffic lights are out. Treat this scenario as a four-way stop.
Clear as much snow/ice as possible from your vehicle – from the windows, mirrors, roof, hood, trunk, bumper, headlights and tail lights- before driving.
Remember, if road conditions are icy, don't try to drive unless you must.
