Kannapolis Issues Water System Advisory > City of Kannapolis | City of Kannapolis

News Articles

Early this morning a water main break occurred in downtown Kannapolis on First Street near the Gem Theatre. This is one of the oldest waterlines in the City. Kannapolis Public Works Department crews are working to repair the line.

Some water customers may be experiencing periods of low water pressure and outages in the immediate vicinity of Downtown Kannapolis area due to the water main break. The affected area includes the downtown business core between First Street and Vance Avenue, First Street to U.S. 29, and Main Street from First Street to Vance Street.

At this point we anticipate that repairs to the waterline may take all day.

Periods of low or no pressure increases the potential for the backflow of water and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, when water service is restored, customers who had no water or low pressure water service, are recommended to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking water, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water until further notice.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute will kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible until the water break is repaired. If you have any questions, please call the City of Kannapolis Public Works Department at 704.920.4200.
