It is another great year to Discover Fun in Kannapolis. The City has announced its lineup of concerts, movies, special events, Intimidators Baseball and of course - fireworks for 2019. All movies and concerts are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park.

This week’s events are:

May 22-23: Autograph the Steel Beam, Kannapolis City Hall
Construction on the new Kannapolis Sports & Entertainment Venue is progressing rapidly. It is a tradition in the construction industry for the workers who put the last steel beam in place to autograph the steel beam. We would like to invite you to participate in this time-honored tradition. The beam will be installed at the SEV later this month.

May 23: Farmer’s Market (4 -7 p.m.), corner of Dale Earnhardt Blvd. and Vance Ave.

May 24: Movies in the Park (8:45 p.m.) – Incredibles 2, Village Park

May 26: Jazz Series (1-3 p.m.) – Buff Dillard Music Quartet, Veterans Park. Food will be available for purchase.


Buff, an International Smooth Jazz Solo Recording Artist, offers some of the best cool, smooth and inspirational jazz around the globe. He's performed as an opening act for Jazz Legends such as Boney James, Alex Bugnon, Walter Beasley, Kim Waters, Brian Simpson, Pieces Of A Dream and many more. He's a musician, artist, producer, arranger and entertainer that excites his audiences with the smooth melodies of his trombone that he's coined as "Bonejazz". With over 30 years of experience, we are sure that you'll be entertained.


May 27: Memorial Day Parade (12 p.m.) – Veterans Park
We hope you will join us for the Memorial Day Parade which begins at 11:30 a.m., May 27. The parade begins at the intersection of Laureate Way and Main Street and concludes at Veterans Park on Main Street. A ceremony will follow in the park at 12 noon. Ms. Dorothy Cole, a Cabarrus County resident and the oldest living female WW II Marine Veteran (she is 105), will be honored during the ceremony by Congressman Richard Hudson. The Reggie Saddler Group will perform.

May 27: Kannapolis City Offices Closed
Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 28, at 8 a.m. There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service, however, there will be no yard debris collection on Monday, Memorial Day.

All Kannapolis parks will be open for regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. In Village Park, the Rotary Express and Splash Pad will be open Saturday, 10 a.m. -7 p.m.; Sunday and Monday from noon to 6 p.m. At Bakers Creek Park the putt putt course will be open on Saturday from 11 a.m. -6:30 p.m., Sunday from 2-6:30 p.m. and Monday from noon to 6 p.m.

The virtual run allows you to walk/run wherever and whenever you like (i.e. your neighborhood or around the Loop). Once you register, we will mail your medal to you.

Free Admission except for Intimidator games and run events. Children 18 & under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. No pets or smoking please.
