It is another great year to Discover Fun in Kannapolis. The City has announced its lineup of concerts, movies, special events, Intimidators Baseball and of course - fireworks for 2019. All movies and concerts are free to the public and will be held in downtown Kannapolis. Movies and concerts are held at Village Park and Veterans Park.

This week’s events are:


July 9 - 14: Kannapolis Intimidators Home Games (7 p.m.) – Greensboro Grasshoppers. Buy Tickets at IntimidatorsBaseball.com. Fireworks will follow the July 13 game.


July 11: Children’s Theatre (1 p.m.) – Wizard of Oz, Veterans Park. This program is ideal for all ages.


July 11: Farmer’s Market (4 - 7 p.m.), corner of Dale Earnhardt Blvd. and Vance Ave.


July 11: Thursday on Main (6 - 9 p.m.) – Band of Oz, Veterans Park

The beach music group Band of Oz evolved from the Greenville, North Carolina Rose High School stage band. The group of high school students became a professional band during the early 1970’s and featured Chuck French (trumpet), Gary Warren (saxophone), Randy Hignite (keyboards), Jim Heidenreich (drums) Johnnie Byrd (bass), Keith Houston (guitar) and Buddy Johnson on vocals. In 1971 Johnson was replaced by Billy Bazemore.

The group’s first single, “Shaggin,” was released in 1978; the follow year they released “Star of My Life.”

The Band of Oz was inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame in 1997.

July 12: Movie in the Park (8:45 p.m.) – Secret Life of Pets, Village Park

Max is a spoiled terrier who enjoys a comfortable life in a New York building until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine. During their walk outside, they encounter a group of ferocious alley cats and wind up in a truck that's bound for the pound. Luckily, a rebellious bunny named Snowball swoops in to save the doggy duo from captivity. In exchange, Snowball demands that Max and Duke join his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who've done them wrong.

July 13: Stories Under the Stars (7 p.m.) – Professor Whizzpop, Kannapolis Library

Step into the laboratory where mad scientist and inventor of crazy gadgets Professor Whizzpop delights audiences with a unique blend of magic and comedy.

Now- December 15 First Knight Virtual 5K – Register at runkannapolis.com
The virtual run allows you to walk/run wherever and whenever you like (i.e. your neighborhood or around the Loop). Once you register, we will mail your medal to you.
