The Kannapolis Police Department announces the promotion of both Christopher Hill and Brent Rowland to the position of lieutenant and Alex Quigley to the position of sergeant.  

Lt. Christopher Hill joined the Kannapolis Police Department in 2009.  He served as a patrol officer for three years before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division as a felony investigator. In 2014 he earned the designation of Police Officer II and was promoted to Sergeant. He transferred to the vice and narcotics unit in 2016.  

In addition to his regular duties, Hill is a field training officer and has been awarded Advanced Law Enforcement Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.  He was the 2014 recipient of the agency’s Roger Dale Carter Memorial Service Award and received Unit Commendations in 2014 and 2016.  

Hill is a graduate of Edwards-Knox Central High School in Russell, New York, and holds both an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Criminal Investigation from State University of New York at Canton.  

Hill is the son of Roger and Deborah Hill and is married to Claire. They have two daughters, Brenna and Shannon. 


Sgt. Alex Quigley joined the Kannapolis Police Department in 2015.  He served as a patrol officer for three years before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division as a felony investigator in 2018. He earned the designation of Police Officer II in 2019. 

In addition to his regular duties, Quigley is a certified polygraph examiner, field training officer and hostage negotiator. He has been awarded Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission.  

Quigley is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School and holds bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is the son of Philip and Betsy Quigley.  He is married to Brittany, and they have a son, James. 

Lt. Brent Rowland began his career with the Kannapolis Police Department as a patrol officer in 2002.  In 2009 he earned the designation of Police Officer II and was promoted to Sergeant in 2010.  

In addition to his regular duties, Brent is one of the agency’s certified traffic reconstruction specialists.  He is a member of the Special Response Team and Honor Guard, and he also serves as a Field Training Officer. He was awarded a Police Commendation (Individual) in 2008 for outstanding actions in the performance of duty, was the 2009 recipient of the Rowan Optimist Club Officer of the Year Award and was honored in 2019 for outstanding work in the community by Cannon Memorial Lodge #626. 

Rowland holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. He is a graduate of First Assembly Christian School and studied criminal justice at University of North Carolina at Wilmington and University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Brent is married to Tracy Rowland.
