N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews are actively working on every section of N.C. 3 from Kannapolis Parkway to Loop Road, as work continues to widen the existing road to a four-lane divided roadway. Completion is currently scheduled for spring 2022.

 

Current operations include:

Soil cement stabilization from Beth Page Rd. to Rainbow Dr.

Fine grading in multiple areas From Beth Page Rd to Rainbow Dr., then from Rainbow Dr. to Cypress St. once the double barrel culvert near Bailey Street is backfilled.

Storm drain installation from Beth Page Rd to Rainbow Dr. and from Pine St. to Loop Rd.

Pouring concrete sidewalk and driveways from Boy Scout Camp Rd. to Marion Ave.

Sewer line tie ins continue.

Retaining wall construction; 3 walls ongoing and 2 are complete: All walls are between Cypress St. and Loop Rd.

Superstructure work for bridge over Irish Buffalo Creek.

Single barrel culvert work near Charlie Walker Rd.

Daily erosion and traffic control operations.

Contractor is also working through utility conflicts in project limits.

New bridge over Irish Buffalo Creek is complete toward Kannapolis Parkway. The existing bridge has been demolished. Crews are preparing to pour the concrete bridge deck on the bridge toward Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, so there will be two new structures over the creek.

Access for emergency vehicles and school/special needs buses will be maintained throughout construction.
