The City of Kannapolis is issuing a call to area photographers for photography that illustrates the people, places and things that make the City unique. We would love to see photos of city events, art pieces, hidden gems in Kannapolis and all seasons represented! Keep in mind our brand promise below for inspiration as well.

 

The photos that best illustrate these topics will become part of permanent displays in Kannapolis City Hall and other city facilities.  Photographers will receive $150 for each photo that is selected. First preference will be given to photographers from Kannapolis, Cabarrus and Rowan Counties.

 

We invite photographers to submit photos that showcase the following categories:

 

“Discover a Healthy Life” – photos would show how the City’s brand comes to life daily

Beauty – photos that feature the beauty of our City’s landscape, nature, parks, greenways, etc.

Architectural – unique structures or items that are typically easily recognized. Don’t forget photos from distinctive neighborhoods such the Mill Village, Afton, VIDA, Kellswater, etc.

Landmarks – any person, place or thing that symbolizes “Kannapolis” Examples: The Dale Earnhardt Tribute, Gem Theatre, Village Park, Veterans Park, Bakers Creek, Safrit Park, Greenways, Atrium Health Ballpark, West Avenue, N.C. Research Campus, N.C. Music Hall of Fame, Irish Creek Golf Course, Kannapolis City Hall, Kannapolis City School Buildings, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Kannapolis Train Station, churches

History – people, places and items that bring to mind the history of the City

People – no portraits please. Candid, unposed, posed shots of people interacting with each other and the physical environment of the City.

Digital Manipulation – Show us your artistic flair with photos that pertain to the City.

Municipal Functions -  this category would be photos of any city employees, services, or departments. (Police, Fire, Water/Sewer, Garbage/Recycling, Streets, Parks & Recreation, etc.)

 

Rules

 


All photos must be taken in Kannapolis and you must provide the location of the photograph.

Photos must be submitted digitally. As we plan to use the photos in many different locations, and for various uses, a variety of styles and sizes are welcome such as black and white, color, collage, and so forth. 
If the photo was taken at a private residence, the location will not be released to the general public.
You must have permission to photograph the subjects of the photo.
Limited to five photo submissions per category.
Photos must be devoid of watermarks, photographer's name/business name, artistic frames, and other added style elements.

All photos must have a resolution of 300 dpi or higher.

Photos should be in good taste and reflective of our community’s standards.

By submitting a photo, you grant the City and those authorized by the City, a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable and non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed. Uses include, but are not limited to print, digital, newsletters, websites, slide shows, murals, promotional items, displays, etc.

If selected photographers will receive credit and agree to any publicity of the work by the City.

 

 

Deadline

 

All photos must be submitted by the deadline of 5 p.m. on August 31 to be considered.
