City staff have been busy as the weather produced snow-covered roads throughout the area. We had almost 2 inches of snow.

The Kannapolis 911 center answered multiple calls reporting accidents, stranded motorists, and blocked roads, in addition to the normal calls for assistance.

Kannapolis Transportation crews have worked overnight to clear roadways but streets are slick as the temps remain below freezing.

As reported earlier, several roads were closed as they became impassable due to abandoned vehicles that could not compete with the slippery conditions. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported and most all of the roads that were closed earlier, have been reopened.

With cold, low temperatures forecasted for the next several days, icy road conditions will remain a concern as melting occurs during the day, then refreezes overnight.

Motorists are urged to stay off the roadways if possible, otherwise, plan ahead, and allow extra time to reach your destination.
