The City of Kannapolis has installed a Wayfinding System to aid residents and visitors as they navigate around and explore locations of interest within city limits.

Current signage throughout the city needed to be replaced due to aging, use of the previous city logo, different colors and sizes. The new system creates an easily recognizable comprehensive and cohesive system for residents and visitors.

The goal of Wayfinding is to use signage and other mediums to organize the best routes people need to take to find destinations, natural attractions and cultural features of the City such as Village Park, the Kannapolis Intimidators Stadium, the Gem Theatre or the N.C. Music Hall of Fame. Signage is along major routes, such as U.S. 29, N.C. 3, and N.C. 73, that people use to travel to the heart of Kannapolis.

Signage at public facilities such as park locations was also replaced.

Through signage we are able to tell the story of our City brand using the city colors, logo, landscaping, and names of our most popular locations. The Wayfinding Project will have multiple components and multiple phases. The City is also collaborating with the Cabarrus Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Salisbury & Rowan County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau to incorporate countywide signage. There will also be gateway structures at the I-85 exits welcoming people to the City of Kannapolis as part of a joint project with North Carolina Department of Transportation.
