Update: Water service has been restored.

Some City of Concord and City of Kannapolis water customers in northwestern Cabarrus County are currently without water service while crews repair a water line damaged by private contractors earlier today. Affected Concord customers are located in the Cabarrus Crossing subdivision.

Affected Kannapolis customers include the Wellington Chase, Waterford, The Farm at Riverpoint and Pelham Point subdivisions,  Christ the King Catholic High School, and the commercial developments at Highway 73 and Shiloh Church Road, as well as potential other customers along Shiloh Church Road.

Earlier this afternoon, a contractor bored into a 24-inch water main on Hwy 73 near Jim Johnson Road. Concord Water Resources crews were able to isolate the damage, but due to the size of the main it is taking many hours for the water to drain out of the line before crews can proceed with repairs. Once water stops flowing, an entire section of pipe will be replaced. Crews estimate that repairs may be complete by 10:00 this evening. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
