Downtown Street Closures Announced > City of Kannapolis | City of Kannapolis

News Articles

The City has begun a major infrastructure and streetscape project as part of the downtown revitalization efforts. Oak Avenue between B Street and Laureate Way will be closed for construction beginning November 1.

West Avenue will be fenced off for construction beginning the middle of November. When that happens, there will no longer be vehicular access, but pedestrian access will be provided to businesses and residents. Other streets will also be closed intermittently.

There will continue to be on-street parking available on Oak Avenue south of B Street, as well as Main Street, A Street, and Laureate Way. The surface parking lots on Main Street at the Train Station and across from Veterans Park will remain open, as well as the parking lot next to Lee Clothing Warehouse.

Please refer to the map below for street closure information. Signage will also be in place to help direct traffic.

The map is meant to provide a general overview of construction phasing. As construction progresses, we will communicate additional information as it becomes relevant.

We expect the streetscape and infrastructure construction to be complete around the beginning of 2019.

We understand this is an inconvenience and appreciate your patience to work with us during this transitional period.

The following businesses remain open and we hope you will continue to patronize them during the construction:

Cross Fit
Gem Theatre
Lee Clothing Warehouse
Piedmont School of Music & Dance
Pizza Hut
Restaurant 46
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College
Village Grill
Virginia's
Wells Fargo
