The City of Kannapolis has awarded $50,000 in federally funded grants to 20 non-profits who offer programs that benefit low and moderate-income residents in the City. These funds are part of the City’s 2018-2019 Community Development Block Grant fund allocation that we receive from Housing and Urban Development.

The grants were awarded to:

•Academic Learning Center - $2,500 for teacher stipends and instructional materials for the afterschool program.

•Big Brothers Big Sisters - $2,000 to grow the Bigs in Blue program which pairs police officers with students to develop one-on-one mentoring relationships.

•Cabarrus Cooperative Christian Ministry - $10,000 to launch a new 15-week educational course “Getting Ahead in a Just Getting by World.”

•Cabarrus Health Alliance - $2,500 for student dental health services.

•Cabarrus Meals on Wheels - $2,500 – funds to help with the costs of providing meals for seniors.

•Classroom Central - $2,000 – funds will cover the costs for bringing this free school supply program to Kannapolis City Schools.

•Community Free Clinic - $2,000 – Funds will be used to provide diabetic patient medical supplies.

•Conflict Resolution – Teen Court Program - $2,000 for this first-time youth offender program.

•Elder Orphan Care - $2,000 was granted to assist with safety modifications for at-risk seniors.

•Genesis Counseling – $2,000 to provide outpatient services for substance abuse patients.

•Jr. Achievement - $2,000 to deliver a program on personal finance, economics and workforce development at Kannapolis Middle School.

•Jr. Charity League - $2,000 for the purchase of school uniforms, weather appropriate clothing and toiletries for needy families.

•Main Street Mission - $2,000 for the Getting Ahead Classes.

•Midway’s Opportunity House - $2,500 for resources for families in need.

•New Piney Grove Community Center - $2,000 to start a music and dance summer camp class for 12-18 year olds.

•Operation Homeless, Inc. - $2,500 for the soup kitchen.

•Prevent Child Abuse Rowan - $2,500 – these funds will support the Terrie Hess House Child Advocacy Center.

•Prosperity Unlimited, Inc. - $2,000 – funds are used to pay for the organization’s office space.

•Trinity United Methodist Church - $1,000 – monies will aid in the cost of hosting the weekly God’s Supper Table.

•Vision for Life of Kannapolis - $2,000 – students will receive homework, social skill and life/character instruction.
