The Kannapolis City Council invites the public to attend an informational meeting on the Downtown Revitalization Master Plan. The public will have three opportunities to hear details of the proposed master plan.
Informational Meetings will be held from 6-7 p.m., June 20 and June 29, at Kannapolis City Hall & Police Headquarters located at 401 Laureate Way.
A presentation of the plan will also be made at the general meeting of Downtown Kannapolis, Inc. at 6:30 p.m. on June 16 at Kannapolis City Hall & Police Headquarters. This meeting is also open to the public.
In September of 2015 the City purchased approximately 50 acres of property and 80 buildings in the downtown core. Since then, City Council members and staff have been working with the non-profit Development Finance Initiative (DFI), at the UNC-CH School of Government to strategically prepare for the revitalization of downtown Kannapolis.
DFI has used input from City Council members as well as market and site analyses to prepare the Downtown Revitalization Master Plan. Components of the Master Plan will include proposing types of uses and locations for anchors that will drive people to the downtown such as a sports and entertainment complex and performing arts center; and recommendations for residential, retail, office and restaurants.
In addition to a presentation on the master plan the public will be able to view a detailed 3D model of the downtown properties which were purchased.
