The City of Kannapolis is celebrating 40 years of incorporation as a City in 2024. On November 6, 1984, citizens of an unincorporated area traditionally known as Kannapolis voted to officially become an incorporated City. Over the last 40 years, the City has grown and flourished into a vibrant hub for healthy living, economic growth, and industry leading research.

From 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, the public is invited to stop by the Swanee Theatre in Downtown Kannapolis to enjoy a free birthday pop-up event. City staff and the Kannapolis Youth Council will be handing out free cupcakes and balloons. Citizens will also be able to participate in a City birthday card that will later be displayed in City Hall.

The City has also commissioned custom, commemorative ornaments to help celebrate the anniversary of the City’s incorporation. The ornaments were hand painted by Theresa of Heart’s Gifts in Kannapolis and feature a special “40th Anniversary” version of the City’s logo.

The ornaments are available for purchase?at $25 each. Order now as there are a limited number available. Purchased ornaments must be picked up in the Parks and Recreation Department on the third floor of City Hall.
