KPD Trilogy Award

The City of Kannapolis Police Department has received the prestigious Trilogy Award from the FBI – Law Enforcement Executive Development Association. This award is given to police departments whose top ranked staff members have completed three specialized tiers of leadership training. The three tiers of training are the Supervisor Leadership Institute, the Command Leadership Institute and the Executive Leadership Institute. It takes a minimum of two years to complete the training.

“Completing this training was important for our organization. The instructors are current and retired law enforcement executives from all over the United States who have extensive leadership development experience. They share their own personal experiences while covering the course curriculum which makes it very relevant to our staff who are in leadership roles in today’s law enforcement agencies. Accomplishing this milestone continues our commitment to be a professional, well trained and progressive law enforcement agency,” commented Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry.

Chief Terry Spry, Deputy Police Chief Daniel Wallace, Captains Jennifer Clarke, Chris Hill,  and Brent Rowland; Lieutenants Chris Fisher, Jason Hinson, Justin Smith, and Allen Tomlin have all completed the training.

The three tiers of training focused on:

•    The Supervisor Leadership Institute which is designed for emerging leaders in the police department. The course concentrates on understanding the role of a supervisor. Leadership philosophy and expectations are key components of this class.

•    The Command Leadership Institute is the second component for police staff who have achieved positions of leadership such as lieutenant and above. This course delves into leaders understanding their day-to-day roles in the organization, command decision making, employee communications and relationships, and community relationships.

•    The third level, the Executive Leadership Institute focuses on procedural justice, police, oversight, diversity, inclusion, community policing, crime reduction, and trends in community policing. Additional topics in this training level includes social and emotional intelligence.
