Winter Weather Update - 8:30 a.m. January 18 Our City Transportation Crews continue to work to plow/slag streets. All major streets in the City are clear at this time. Reminder - Garbage and recycling service is on a one day delay this week. Additionally,  Monday's routes will be collected on a two hour delay tomorrow. Rider Transit will not operate tomorrow.

6 a.m. January 17 We continue to request that you do not travel this morning. Enjoy an extra cup of coffee/hot chocolate and build a snowman.  Streets are still very dangerous. Our police and fire departments have responded to several incidents where people have become stranded after getting out and then they have not been able to drive on the ice and snow. There will be no garbage/recycling service tomorrow, Monday, January 17. Collection will be on a one day delay this week.   We really appreciate everyone staying off the roads. At this point we have not had any vehicle accidents since the storm started which is wonderful!     11:30 a.m. January 15 - Rider Transit services are canceled for Sunday, January 16. 10 a.m. January 15 - Good Morning, Kannapolis and the Charlotte Region is now under a Winter Storm Warning from Saturday night until Sunday night. A Winter Storm Warning means significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations are expected in our region. Kannapolis and the Charlotte Region is now under a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday night until Monday. A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. We encourage you to pay attention to official weather forecasts over the weekend as the winter weather arrives in our area. The City of Kannapolis offices will be closed Monday, January 17, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Offices will reopen on January 18. There will be no delay in the collection of garbage, recycling, bulky waste, or e-waste.   Yard debris and loose-leaf collection will not be collected on Monday, January 17, but will be collected on your next regularly scheduled day. Tuesday-Friday collection of loose leaves and yard waste will operate on a regular schedule.
