We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Former Kannapolis Fire Chief Rick Barnhardt. Chief Barnhardt passed away today at his home of natural causes. He retired from the department in March 2020 after a long tenure with the Kannapolis Fire Department. Rick had been with the Kannapolis Fire Department for 30 years. The Kannapolis City Council’s goal to attract private investment in the downtown continues to progress with the sale of two more parcels of property. At their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, the City Council approved the sale of 230, 234, 242, 246 and 250 Oak Avenue (Block 7) to Oak Avenue Partners, LLC. All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. There will be no garbage/recycling/yard waste/loose leaf collection service on Thanksgiving Day, and no loose leaf/yard waste collection on Friday, November 28. The non-profit, 1CAN, has installed a Blessing Box at Fire Station 1, located at 300 Firehouse Drive. The Blessing Box is stocked with food and personal hygiene items. Needy persons may stop by at any time and take what they need. Anyone in the community is also welcomed to stock the box at any time. Since 2013, Kannapolis police officers have partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” Christmas program. Police officers, who are in neighborhoods every day, identify less fortunate children in our City, who would not have a visit from Santa.
