All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Thursday, December 24, and Friday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. There will be no garbage, loose leaf and recycling collection service on Christmas Day. We will operate on a one day delay. Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday. Hundreds of people attended a ceremony Monday to dedicate the new Kannapolis City Hall and Police Headquarters. The building is located at 401 Laureate Way. The ceremony featured a formal flag raising ceremony with a Police and Fire Honor Guard.  Kannapolis City Council heard preliminary findings from the site analysis phase of the downtown master planning process on Monday evening. The site analysis, conducted by the Development Finance Initiative (DFI), studied the downtown property owned by the City of Kannapolis to determine the scale of potential development and appropriate mix of uses for revitalizing the downtown district. The Kannapolis City Council has approved funds to construct a new Fire Station 2 and to do renovations to Fire Station 3. Members of City Council recently heard a presentation from Fire Chief Ernie Hiers on the facility needs of the Fire Department. The City has five stations: Station 1on Firehouse Drive, Station 2 on Richard Avenue, Station 3 on Florida Avenue, Station 4 on Stewart Street, and Station 5 on Barr Road.  Fire Station 2 was built in 1963. Kannapolis holiday festivities continue with the 77th Annual Cannon Pharmacy Kannapolis Christmas Parade on Dec. 12. Starting at 6 p.m., the parade begins at the intersection of Main St. and Dale Earnhardt Blvd., and concludes at the intersection of Vance and West Avenues.
