All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed for business on Monday, May 31, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1. There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service, however, there will be no yard debris collection on Monday. All Kannapolis parks will be open for regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. In Village Park, the Pad will be open Saturday, 10 a.m. -7 p.m.; Sunday and Monday from noon to 6 p.m.

The Kannapolis City Council voted Monday night to approve moving forward with extending utilities to Kannapolis Crossing. Kannapolis Crossing is a mixed-used development that will be located at the new Exit 65 off I-85 (Old Beatty Ford Road). Kannapolis City Manager Mike Legg presented the recommended Fiscal Year 2022 budget to the Kannapolis City Council Monday evening. The recommended budget is $85,250,848 which includes all six operating funds of the City. The budget includes no property tax or utility fee increases, but there is a proposed $2.50 increase in environmental fees. The Kannapolis City Council has approved a development proposal for the former Kannapolis Intimidators Stadium property.   The proposal will allow Fortius Capital Partners to purchase the former Kannapolis Intimidators Stadium for $3 million. The 55-acre site is located on Lane Street near the I-85 Exit 63 interchange and has excellent access to Charlotte and Greensboro. The Village Park Splash Pad will open on Saturday, May 29. The Splash Pad hours are Monday – Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday, from noon – 6 p.m. (Open noon – 6 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 31).  Village Park is located at 700 West C Street.
