The Kannapolis City Council recently approved $190,725 in non-profit grants for 13 local organizations.  The funds are to be used for preparing, preventing and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds must be used to benefit the residents of Kannapolis. The City of Kannapolis is seeking redevelopment proposals for the former Kannapolis Intimidators Stadium property located off Lane Street. The city owned property is located on Stadium Drive, at Exit 63, between I-85 to the east and Lake Fisher to the west. The location is beautiful with an established tree canopy and lake views. Leo Pope has been promoted to Operations Manager of the City of Kannapolis’ Transportation Division. As Operations Manager, Leo is now responsible for fleet maintenance, sign maintenance, asphalt repairs, street resurfacing and preventative maintenance of city streets as well as snow and ice removal during winter weather events. The Kannapolis Fire Department welcomes three new firefighters, Jacob Gaworecki, Michael Nance and Ryan Wilson, to its ranks. The new recruits completed eight weeks of fire, rescue and medical training prior to officially joining the department. A badge pinning ceremony was conducted at Veteran’s Park recognizing the new personnel for their achievements. All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Garbage and recycling collection services will run on its normal schedule. The City of Kannapolis is accepting upset bids for property on Oak Avenue. The city-owned property includes 230, 234, 242, 246 and 250 Oak Avenue. The properties currently have two tenants, including Pizza Hut, and is suitable for office and commercial space. The City has received an upset bid of $815,000 for the property which is .56 acres and approximately 11,000 square feet.
