If you have a business, church or school building that is closed or partially closed you need to flush your pipes (flush toilets/run faucets) at least biweekly. Unless completely shut off there is always some water left in pipes. If a building is not in use water in the pipes becomes stagnant. Progress on the first phase of the Irish Buffalo Creek Greenway continues. This first phase is 2.7 miles and will run along a utility easement from Orphanage Road to Rogers Lake Road. The greenway will be ten feet wide and paved. It is expected to be completed in later this summer. Earlier this week three pedestrian bridges arrived. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the N.C. Department of Transportation’s passenger rail service, NC By Train, is being reduced. As of April 6, Carolinian trains 79 and 80 will not operate until May 4. Piedmont trains 75 and 76 are running one daily round trip between Raleigh and Charlotte. A week after Cabarrus County and its municipalities enacted a Stay-at-Home Proclamation, Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA) officials are asking residents to follow key components of the measure in order to limit transmission of COVID-19 in the area. The Government Finance Officers Association has presented the Distinguished Budget Award to the City of Kannapolis. The award is given to municipalities who publish a budget that is a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan and is used as a communications device. The City of Kannapolis budget document was found to be proficient in those four categories and met 14 mandatory criteria in order to achieve the award.

The City of Kannapolis offices will be closed Friday, April 10, in observance of the Easter Holiday. Offices will reopen for employees on Monday, April 13.
