With the excitement building for Opening Day, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers announced game times and scheduled fireworks dates for the inaugural 2020 season. The 70-game home schedule will feature 16 fireworks shows, including a display each Saturday night. Thursday evening, the City of Kannapolis and Atrium Health Cabarrus honored the 2019 Run Kannapolis and Loop the Loop Challenge participants during a special ceremony.  This year 53 people completed all eight of the 5K Run Kannapolis events, which is 20 more than 2018. Approximately 254 people and dogs participated in this year’s Loop the Loop Challenge, which is 104 more than 2018. The City of Kannapolis is once again planning the annual Jiggy with the Piggy Festival to be held the weekend of April 30 to May 3. The festival will take place in Downtown Kannapolis and the City is seeking vendors to participate in the event. The event has been named one of the Top Twenty Events in the Southeast. The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking input to help shape the future of transportation in North Carolina. The department is in the process of conducting a two-year study to develop its new 30-year strategic transportation plan, called the NC Moves 2050 Plan.  As part of the final phase of the study, the NC Moves 2050 project team has created a survey for the public to weigh in on matters impacting the future of transportation. It is with our deepest sympathies that we announce the passing of Former Kannapolis Mayor Ray Moss who died Friday, January 17, at the age of 89.  Moss served two terms as Mayor from 1997-2005. As Mayor, he led the community through Weaving a Shared Future, a strategic visioning process that established a long-term plan for improving Kannapolis and its quality of life. The City of Kannapolis offices will be closed Monday, January 20 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Offices will reopen on January 21. There will be no delay in the collection of garbage, recycling, bulky waste, or e-waste. Yard debris and loose leaf collection will not be collected on Monday, January 20, but will be collected on your next regularly scheduled day. Tuesday-Friday collection of loose leaves and yard waste will operate on a regular schedule.
