Children between the ages of 4 and 10, are encouraged to enter the contest by 5 p.m. on October 31. N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will soon start building a roundabout at the intersection of N.C. 3 and Odell School Road. The $990,000 project was awarded earlier this spring to NJR Group Inc. out of Albemarle.   The intersection is scheduled to close Monday morning so crews can safely build the roundabout. The City of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department has opened registration for Youth Basketball for children 3-15 years old. Registration is from September 12 - November 6. The registration fee is $40 for Kannapolis residents and $60 for non-residents, this includes the cost of uniforms, practices and games. Participants are required to have proper athletic shoes. The Toast of Kannapolis returns this year, 6 – 9 p.m., on September 23, inside Kannapolis City Hall. A number of local wineries and breweries will share samples of their best selections. Kannapolis Transportation Department will be implementing increased traffic safety measures on West Avenue September 12 – 16. Staff will add a safety bollard system which will be used to improve West Avenue’s primary pedestrian intersections. West Avenue will be closed intermittently the week of September 12-16. On Saturday, October 15, from 9 a.m. until noon, the Kannapolis Transportation and Environmental Services Department will host a free document shredding event at the Public Works Operation Center, at 1401 Bethpage Road. This event is for Kannapolis residents only. Document shredding is limited to five file boxes per person, which is the equivalent of two 40-gallon trash bags. No businesses please.
