Progress on the first phase of the Irish Buffalo Creek Greenway continues. This first phase is 2.7 miles and will run along a utility easement from Orphanage Road to Rogers Lake Road. The greenway will be ten feet wide and paved. It is expected to be completed in later this summer. Earlier this week three pedestrian bridges arrived. A week after Cabarrus County and its municipalities enacted a Stay-at-Home Proclamation, Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA) officials are asking residents to follow key components of the measure in order to limit transmission of COVID-19 in the area. Today, elected officials with Cabarrus County, the cities of Concord and Kannapolis, and the towns of Harrisburg, Midland and Mt. Pleasant announced revisions to their Stay-at-Home Proclamation. The Kannapolis Police Department welcomes Nijah Armstrong as its newest officer. She graduated from the Stanly Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training program in December. The City of Kannapolis contracts with Waste Management for the collection of garbage, recycling, bulky goods, electronic waste and white goods (appliances). Yard debris is collected by city crews. Waste Management, in an abundance of caution for the health of its employees, is suspending the collection of white goods (appliances) and electronic waste beginning Monday, March 30. Rider Transit plans to suspend fare collections on all routes effective at 5:30 p.m. today, March 26. This is the latest measure undertaken by the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis, which jointly operate Rider, to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jiggy with the Piggy 2020, which had been planned for April 29 – May 3 in downtown Kannapolis has been canceled. Due to the current restrictions on mass gatherings and the timely decisions we need to make regarding plans for the festival we have had to make this difficult decision to not hold the event in 2020.
