Thursday evening, the City of Kannapolis and Atrium Health Cabarrus honored the 2019 Run Kannapolis and Loop the Loop Challenge participants during a special ceremony.  This year 53 people completed all eight of the 5K Run Kannapolis events, which is 20 more than 2018. Approximately 254 people and dogs participated in this year’s Loop the Loop Challenge, which is 104 more than 2018. It is with our deepest sympathies that we announce the passing of former Kannapolis Mayor Bob Misenheimer, who died Tuesday, January 21, at the age of 88, after a period of failing health. Mayor Misenheimer joined the Kannapolis City Council in 1989, and was elected to serve two terms as Mayor, from 2005-2013. Today, crews laid the final rolls of sod transforming the Kannapolis Sports and Entertainment Venue (SEV) from a construction zone into a green oasis where the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers will play their first game on April 16, 2020. Construction of the first phase of the Irish Buffalo Creek Greenway is underway. This first phase is 2.5 miles and will run along a sewer easement from Orphanage Road to Rogers Lake Road. The greenway will be ten feet wide and paved. It is expected to be completed in 2020.
