Incident Reports and Crime Tips

The Kannapolis Police Department would like to remind you that we offer various services online. We encourage you to use these online services whenever possible. It is our commitment to you that every report will be assigned to a Kannapolis Police Officer and that an Officer will be in contact with you to follow up.

To obtain copies of CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) calls, please contact TeleCommunications Center Manager Hollie Morton (hmorton@kannapolisnc.gov or 704-920-4091). A Freedom of Information Act form will need to be completed for this request. 

To request Incident Reports, contact our Records Department (KPD_records@kannapolisnc.gov or 704-920-4129). Only the first page of the report is public record. The rest of the report would need to be subpoenaed by an attorney (this would include the narrative).

Due to the new law Chapter 123, Section 2721 accident reports are no longer available online. You must come in person with an ID. Your insurance or law office may contact us on your behalf. Accident requests made by insurance companies or law offices should be sent to KPD_records@kannapolisnc.gov. (Email option is only available to insurance companies and law offices.)

For accident reports, you may also go through the DMV website and fill out TR-67A to request a report. There is a fee.

Fingerprint Services 

The Kannapolis Police Department provides fingerprint services BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Fingerprinting services are limited to Cabarrus and Rowan County residents. The only exception to outside residency requirements will be for those individuals who will be employed by a business or attending a school within Cabarrus or Rowan County. You must show county of residency or proof of place of employment or school attendance. Fingerprinting fees are $15 cash for Kannapolis residents and $25 cash for non-residents. Additional information can be found by clicking here or by contacting the Records Division at 704-920-4129.

Commend an Officer / Communicator / Other Employee

If you would like to recognize a Kannapolis Police Officer, Communicator, or other employee who has performed his or her duties in a manner in which you feel is exceptional and reflects favorably upon the officer/ employee and the Department, we encourage you to take a moment and tell us about it. 

Commendations may be made in person, by phone, mail or through the MyPD app.

You play a role in protecting your community. Informed, alert communities play a critical role in keeping our nation safe. "If You See Something, Say Something™" engages the public in protecting our homeland through awareness–building, partnerships, and other outreach.

To report suspicious activity, contact your local law enforcement agency or you may contact the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center by calling 1-888-624-7222. 

Describe specifically what you observed, including:

• Who or what you saw;
• When you saw it;
• Where it occurred; and
• Why it's suspicious

Accreditation

The Kannapolis Police Department has achieved and maintains Advanced Accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This is the highest level of law enforcement accreditation and insures professional excellence. Law Enforcement accreditation is a distinction shared by a small percentage of law enforcement agencies nationwide. Consequently, maintaining this official recognition confirms that our department must adhere to strict rules and guidelines governing our policies, procedures, practices and processes. Even more, by participation in CALEA, the Kannapolis Police Department undergoes a rigorous audit to ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation Public Comment Portal  The Kannapolis Police Department participates in the CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation process. As a part of this process, we provide an opportunity for public feedback via the CALEA Portal located here:  http://cimrs2.calea.org/814. The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding our compliance with CALEA standards, engagement with the community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster our pursuit of professional excellence.  It is important to know that CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation. The Kannapolis Police Department is Advanced Law Enforcement Accredited (Tier 2) and complies with all applicable standards. Questions related to the accreditation process may be directed to the Accreditation Manager.  Comments posted will be routed to the Regional Program Manager at the end of each week and shared back with the agency CEO as well as filed for the Compliance Services Manager and CALEA Assessor to access and review prior to upcoming web-based and site-based assessments.
